WILLIAMSBURG TOWNHOUSE, BROOKLYN NY

It’s rare to be given a blank slate to create a new building in NYC; even rarer when you’re an interior designer. Fortunately I had the opportunity to design a ground-up 2-family townhouse in Williamsburg Brooklyn.

Despite the long, narrow lot, we challenged ourselves to give the home a feeling of spaciousness. Our strategy entailed high ceilings, abundant large windows, efficient space planning, and numerous outdoor spaces. Helical stairs conserve precious square footage, and are the visual crown jewel of the triplex.

Inspired by both Haussman style Parisian architecture and Scandinavian modern design, I crafted an inherently elegant style with intuitive layouts suitable for family living. Aesthetically we wanted the building to fit in with detailed pre-war buildings in Brooklyn, while exhibiting a level of design and craftsmanship that stands out amongst new buildings in the area.

The stunning triplex includes 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, 4 outdoor areas, a chef’s kitchen, gas fireplace, laundry room, open den, and 3-level sculptural stairs with skylights above, totaling 2800 sf of indoor space.

On the garden level is a 1000 sf one bedroom apartment with a private patio. Internal stairs connect it to the triplex– or can remain locked for privacy.
